Evaluation questions on Magazine

1. Who did you work with and how did you manage the task between you?
I worked with Emma on this task, we planned to do a magazine for textiles. We called it "City art". I took most of the photos and then we both had a go on photoshop. We both gave our imput equally. As some of our ideas we both disagreed with, so we had to work around this.

2. How did you plan your cover and contents page? What magazines did you use for your inspiration?
We planned our cover and contencts page out on paper, we took inspiration from the "NME" magazine because it has quite arty pictures in there. We also took inspiration from fashion magazines the way the poses that the models hold. As we wanted to protray the contrast between elegant and arty.

3. What technology did you use to complete the task, and how did you use it?
We used a digital camera and a computer for photoshop. We used the digital camera to take different photos so we could experiment with which ones were the best. We then used photoshop to make that effect also to create the text for the magazine.

4. What factors did you have to take into account when planning, shooting and editing?
When planning we had to take into consideration that we had suitable places for the writing as we planned on having alot of pictures. When taking the pictures we needed to make sure we were on a plain background in order fort he picture quality to be good. When editing we needed to make sure that wse didnt include to many colours otherwise the magazine would tacky and unprofessional.

5. Which magazines conventions does the magazine follow?
We have used a barcode and title "city art", we have used our own images. we have put a price on it. we have also used three strap lines

6. Which does it break?
we slightly broke the three coulur rule. As our image of graffiti invloves many different colours.

7. Who is your target audience and how does the layout/images/fonts/colour pallate/cover lines appeal to them?
Our target audience is our aged teenagers i think the city art theme is quite in at the minute and alot of art textiles sturdents would be intersted. The images we chose were bricks, grafetti and then Emma holding an umbrella. We had her holding an umbrella because its "City" we wanted emma to be in the stance of the statue of liberty. The bricks and graffetti can relate to the social side of teenagers. As it is mostly teenagers that do this. Now it can be seen as art. For our colour pallate we used a contrast of the bricks being ablack and white and then this bright colourful graffetti we thought this relates to our target audience as at this age you are trying to find your own personality and idenitiy in life. This allows people to experiment and not to be scared to bring out our personality. The coverlines relate to them if they are interested in fashion and how to make your own clothes.

8. Does the magazine appeal to new or regular readers – how do you know?
This first one would proberly appeal to new readers as its introducing that it is a textiles magazine and saying thngs like "want to make your own cltohes". This could be a process that is carried on through a number of magazines.

9. How successful was your magazine cover? Identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?
I think our magazine cover was alright, but it think we could improved it alot more. The photographs that we took werent what we planned them to be. Also the font wirting and the colours could have been made bigger and clearer. I also think we should have gone and experimented with the camera alot more so we had more artistic pictures. I think we would have achieved this if we were given more time.

10. What have you learnt about producing a magazine front cover and contents page? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing the rest of your foundation coursework?
I have learnt to use a bit of photoshop this will help if i ever need to improve a photo. It has also taught me that font on the magazine is just as important as the pitures.
